Description:
Louis XIV (1638-1715), the "Sun King," reigned for 72 years and is known as the king who established the French dynasty at its peak. The most influential period was the 1680s, when the Palace of Versailles, built with enormous wealth, hosted elegant balls every night, where many aristocrats spent their days dancing. The king himself was a "patron of the arts" and patronized many musicians, including Lully. He was also a skilled dancer and is known for introducing the Menuetto into the court dances. This album brings together works by musicians active in the royal court of Louis XIV, exploring the depths of human emotion that Baroque art sought to express, and recreating the sounds of an intimate world. The soft tones of the traverso, viola da gamba, and theorbo are also appealing. Naxos Japan
