Ukrainian composer Silvestrov celebrates the 80th anniversary of his birth in 2017. As is typical of Russian avant-garde composers such as Arvo Pärt, he wrote avant-garde works until the 1960s and 1970s, but at some point he abandoned his modern style and began writing contemplative works. In 1996, "The Messenger" and "Requiem for Larissa," written after the loss of his beloved wife Larissa Bondarenko, became popular among some fans (one of the reasons was that Manfred Eicher, the head of ECM Records, loved his music), and now a quiet boom is beginning to take place. This album includes a number of songs by Silvestrov. This album contains Silvestrov's masterpiece "The Messenger" and many other nostalgic songs, and will be a good guide for those who are new to Silvestrov. Naxos Japan
