NAXOS occasionally releases a series of crossover(?) albums. The albums are highly acclaimed by those who like "this kind of stuff". For example, the Allsop series of albums, or the album featuring legendary bassist Magnus Rosen (8.572650). Now, the four pieces on this album are also quite unique. The beautiful "Manhattan Intermezzo" by Neil Sedaka (who studied classical music as a teenager), a well-known singer-songwriter. Keith Emerson, a member of the British progressive rock band Emerson, Lake and Palmer, performs his frenetic "Piano Concerto," Duke Ellington's classic "New World a Camin" (the cadenza is a highlight), and the familiar Gershwin's " Rhapsody in Blue. All of them can be enjoyed as gorgeous music that transcends genres.Playing the piano this time is Jeffrey Biegel, who is known for his amazingly wide repertoire.
