Description:
Philip Glass is a great composer who needs no further explanation. His works are often lumped together under the name "minimalist," but there is no doubt that since the 1980s they have become more complex, employing a greater variety of ideas and techniques than mere "repetition. The "Concerto Fantasy" was composed in 2000 and rearranged four years later. The first movement, filled with Glass's distinctive sound, is followed by a dense second movement, followed by a long, improvisatory cadenza. The third movement then becomes a complex, rhythmic music that resembles rumba rhythms. Fayrouz is a young Arab composer. As the title suggests, this piece is about the "9/11 incident," and he says that he was originally inspired by the Spiegelman comic with the same title. While it has a harsh description, it also has a tenderness that gently accompanies people's grief. Naxos Japan
