This is a collection of works by Ip Xiaogang (1955- Ye Xiaogang), known as one of the finest composers in contemporary China. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music and also studied in New York from 1987. His works are extremely symphonic, and all of them are as vivid and pleasing to listen to as if they were film music. He made his name at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where his piano concerto was performed by the virtuoso Lan Lan. The performance, accompanied by an orgy of light and dance, captivated an audience of 3 billion people around the world. The "Bride of Macau," a ballet suite in four acts, tells the story of a Chinese sailor and the daughter of a Portuguese ship captain. The two overcome the oncoming stormy seas to celebrate their happy wedding. Four Lingnan Poems" was also commissioned by the Macau Cultural Bureau and is written for tenor and orchestra.Reflecting the passions and aspirations of today's Chinese artists, the piece beautifully reflects the composer's intention to fuse a new dimension to an ancient masterpiece.
