This is the second volume of a collection of violin sonatas by Leclerc (1697-1764), the founder of the French-Belgian violin music school during the Baroque period. In the first volume, the viola da gamba was played by Alison McGillivray, but in the second volume, it is played by Jonathan Munson. Although Leclerc published the first volume of sonatas in 1723, he himself felt the need to learn more, and was greatly influenced by the works of the masters of the time, especially Locatelli, the results of which are said to be evident in Volumes 3 and 4. The results of this influence are said to be evident in the third and fourth volumes. Therefore, the second volume (published in 1728), which was written earlier, may not have been to his liking.
