Lebanese composer Bishara El-Khoury (1957-). This album is his fifth collection of works for NAXOS. He often draws inspiration from nature, and his music includes meditations, recollections, and dreams. Many of the works have titles, but these do not allude to anything specific, but are more atmospheric, and these three concertos are also evocative of the natural landscape of Lebanon, for example. Nevertheless, the violin concerto was commissioned by the "Francophonie Internationale" summit held in Lebanon in 2002, and uses a motif based on the "limited transposition melody" advocated by Messiaen, creating a mysterious atmosphere. The second movement is a cadenza as it is, requiring superb technique from the soloist. The Horn Concerto is interwoven with memories of a mountainous landscape he experienced as a child.The gloom and grandeur of the mountains also depict human fragility. Autumn Painting" is another landscape depiction from his memory, reflecting the clouds in the high sky and the colors of the eastern sky. Naxos Japan
