Description:
This is a collection of sonatas by Catalan composer Sorel (1729-1783). Along with the 15 sonatas in the first collection (8.572515), only the score for these 27 sonatas, performed from a manuscript in the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, is considered to be his authentic work. These sonatas, with a few exceptions, are in pairs of two sonatas in the same key, and all of them form a wonderful contrast between the elegant "slow part" and the extremely active and well-moving "fast part," and all of the sonatas in this second collection are in fact in the same key as the first sonata. All of the sonatas in this second collection fit that rule and should be considered as six sonatas in fact. Anyway, these interesting works, which still have a lot of room for further research, are performed with great skill by Simkus, the winner of the 2009 Maria Canals International Piano Competition.
