When discussing French piano music, one should never forget this Séverac (1872-1921). Rather than imbue his works with the refined elegance of the Impressionists, he preferred to give them the fragrance of the soil and winds of the south of France, and was happy to be called a "country musician. The centerpiece of this third collection is the aptly named suite "Songs of the Earth," composed in 1900 and based on the "Agrarian Poems" of the ancient Roman poet Vergilius. The piano sonata of 1899 reflects his feelings for his father and young sister, who were both lost at the time. For those who want to master this kind of Sevrak, the first collection (8.555855) and the second collection (8.572428) are also available. Naxos Japan
