Description:
Born into an old family of Spanish nobility, Sevrac's (1872-1921) piano music is somewhat nostalgic and has an atmosphere that is different from that of ordinary French music. It is the sound of his hometown of Languedoc (an area of southern France facing the Mediterranean Sea), and it may be due in no small part to the influence of Albéniz, whom he studied under. His works are all softly luminous, bright, and carefree, and the technical demands of playing them are not too high. Recently, piano music has been re-evaluated, but most of them have been performed by French musicians, but in this NAXOS recording, Jordi Maso, who specializes in Spanish music, sings these pieces with great power and seems to shed light on the multifaceted nature of Severac's works.From Vacation Days," which is said to have been influenced by Schumann, is best known for the seventh piece, "Romantic Waltz," but I believe that the true value of this composer can only be understood by listening to the entire piece.
