Description:
In the Tchaikovsky, Billette's performance evokes the heavy, greasy Russian lands, but in this French piece, too, he gives a very distinctive performance that is truly interesting. Saint-Saens' Concerto No. 5, also known as "Egyptian Style," is full of exoticism. The mysterious sound of the second movement in particular evokes the mysterious atmosphere of the Middle East. Billet takes a slower tempo and gives us rich music (although the final movement takes on a fresh, sunny look that reminds us that the composer was born in France). Ravel's two concertos are also unique in their interpretation, and although they may not be to everyone's liking, they are performances that must be heard at least once. It is also wonderful to hear the famous conductor Fournet give us his own unique music. Naxos Japan
