Description:

Frank was highly regarded as an organist, but it was not until he was finally over 50 years old that he was recognized as a composer. However, not all of the works he managed to premiere were highly acclaimed. The opera "Yulda," set in 14th century Norway and depicting the tragedy of the hero Yulda, was not performed during the composer's lifetime, and was finally premiered in 1894, three years after his death. Later, a shortened version failed to gain popularity, and the work was buried in the history books. Franck's music deftly depicts the lives of raging clans, bloodthirsty murderers, and shattered protagonists. Today, only the inserted ballet music is occasionally performed, but this performance in Freiburg is the world premiere recording of the original version without cuts. Naxos Japan
