The story depicted in this operatic ballet by Bracher (1903-1975) is that of the legendary German swindler "Wilhelm Forkt". This is the case of a middle-aged shoemaker who, having obtained a captain's uniform from a recycle store, took over the city hall of Köpenick, arrested the mayor under false orders, and attempted to abscond with 4,000 marks from the vault. The incident is also known to have inspired many films and literary works. The German composer Boris Bracher has adapted this story into a satirical and entertaining opera.Bracher is classified as a contemporary composer, but here he uses easy-to-understand neoclassical music (the famous piano exercise "Cerny No. 50" No. 1 is used effectively in the scene where he is rummaging in a thrift store), and the work is very easy to listen to and well-paced. In real life, Forklund is arrested, but in this work, everything is portrayed as a masked ball, which is why it is "Mächen. The way Wilhelm's parents are portrayed is also very unique.
