To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Sibelius' birth in 2015, Segerstam's series of incidental music recordings for the Naxos label are now available in a boxed set. Dramatic music, along with symphonies and symphonic poems, occupied a very important place in Sibelius' creative career, and he left many works during his lifetime. This 6-disc set includes many of Sibelius' masterpieces, including "Pelleas et Melisande" and "Belshazzar's Feast," as well as "Quarema," which includes original works such as "Sad Waltz" and "Scene with Cranes," and "Scaramouche," a hidden masterpiece that has many fans. All of the albums, including "Jäderman," which was named "Best Classical Recordings of 2015" by the Chicago Tribune, are masterpieces that have received praise from various media. While his repertoire as a conductor is wide-ranging, Segerstam has always had a deep affection for the great composers of his native Finland.The culmination of this monumental project is created in an excellent recording with the clear and beautiful sound of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he is the Music Director as of 2018.
