Description:
The latest reissue of the eternal masterpiece, Klemperer's best Schumann! The first SACD release of the Piano Concerto with Annie Fischer and Liszt's 1st Piano Concerto are coupled. Newly reissued from the original analog master tapes in Japan for this release. New commentary is included. The Schumann recordings on the EMI label, starting with Symphony No. 4 in 1960, were recorded in 1965, 1968, and the following years after the orchestra changed its name to the New Philharmonia Orchestra, including three overtures. The recordings were made in 1965, 1968, and the following year, including three overtures. All of these recordings have been considered to be among the best of Klemperer's many recordings. In addition to the symphony and overture, this latest reissue includes the piano concerto with Annie Fischer as soloist, recorded in 1960 and 1962, and Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1, which was a coupling piece. These two pieces are also famous as one of the best performances of the same piece. The master was digitized at 192kHz/24bit from the original analog master tapes in Japan and mastered separately for this release on the SACD and CD layers. New commentary is included. This is a permanent preservation disc. Klemperer performed Schumann's symphonies in various parts of the world and, unusually for the traditional Austro-German conductors active at the time, also included the 2nd and 3rd symphonies in his repertoire. He had a strong attachment to Schumann, and these recordings on the EMI label are not only among Klemperer's best-known recordings, but are also appreciated by many listeners today as masterpieces of these works.Although Sell was one of the most famous conductors to have taken Schumann's music well, their recordings are still interesting and important in the history of recordings, as they are masterpieces of different interpretations and approaches to Schumann's music. The label was cautious about Schumann's commercial success, and only the Fourth Symphony (and the Concerto) was recorded when he was with the Philharmonia Orchestra (it was coupled with Mendelssohn's "Italia" when it was first released). It was not until 1969, when he was over 80 years old and with the New Philharmonia Orchestra, that the complete symphonies were completed. However, each recording shows tremendous vitality and ambition, and the session recordings seem to have been made with full preparation in accordance with his good physical condition at the time. The fact that each of the recordings was recorded with a full sound may be one of the reasons why these recordings became masterpieces. In this reissue, the piano concertos recorded in 1960 and 1962 with Annie Fischer as soloist and Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 recorded simultaneously as a coupling piece are included in DISC3 The three-disc set includes the piano concertos recorded with Annie Fischer as soloist in 1960 and 1962. These performances are also well known as Annie Fischer's representative recordings and the only recordings of the two together on the EMI label. This is also a one-of-a-kind performance, and is a masterpiece that cannot be missed when discussing the source material of the same piece. (1/2)
