The Ring" at the Berlin State Opera is finally in its second half! The 2022/23 season marked the 30th anniversary of Daniel Barenboim's appointment as music director of the Berlin State Opera. Among the various projects that were planned, the most notable was a new production of "The Ring of the Nibelung" by Dimitri Chernyakov, which was to be performed four nights in a row during the season, but due to Barenboim's illness, Christian Thielemann was to perform three nights in a row and Andreas Schager another night. Barenboim's protégé, the young German conductor Thomas Gugais, was to perform the other three. Thielemann will succeed Barenboim as music director of the Berlin State Opera in September 2024. The C major label is now releasing Thielemann's four-part opera as a video product. The second evening, "Siegfried," revolves around the growth and adventures of the hero Siegfried.Wagner composed the work from 1856 to the following year, but stopped for various reasons in the middle of the second act. The music for the third act is more mature, as it was only completed 12 years later in 1871. The work is full of highlights such as "The Blacksmith's Song," "Whispering in the Woods," and the love duet. The "Siegfried" is a true test of a singer's ability, with eight characters singing for four and a half hours. Here, the role is filled by Andreas Schager, one of the finest Helden tenors of our time, who is said to have been born to sing Siegfried.
