Description:

*Third album "The Times They Are a-Changin'" Sessions. After the release of his second album, Freewheelin', a year in the making, and the hit "Blowin' in the Wind" by Peter, Paul & Marie, Dylan was thrust into the limelight as a young standard-bearer in the folk world. With the help of his hero Pete Seeger and the folk princess Joan Baez, Dylan's style was sharpened. In 1963, the year of his breakthrough, "The Times They Are a-Changin'" is the album that epitomizes Dylan. The present is the past, and those who lead will soon run last, and the times will change." The protest songs on this album are called Dylan's best work as a protest singer, with lyrics that cut to the heart of discrimination and social issues facing the United States at the time. This would be Dylan's last album as a socially conscious singer. Here you will find alternate versions and outtakes of that album. The first song, "The Times They Are a-Changin'," is an early version recorded the day before the official take, and is sung in the key of F (one note lower). The first song, "The Ballad of Hollis Brown," was an early version recorded the day before the official take, sung in the key of F. "The Ballad of Hollis Brown," with B. Langhorne on guitar, was the take tested on the previous album, "Freewheelin'. Fairwell" and "Eternal Circle" are phantom songs whose demos were revealed later in "Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3" and other releases, including a take with harmonica, and here they are included as a pleasant surprise from the "Times Change" sessions. Hero Blues" is a take with Dylan's own piano accompaniment. This song had been shrouded in mystery until it was suddenly performed as the first song on the first day of the Chicago show of the "The Great Recovery" tour with The Band in 1974, but it was already recorded for this album. The beautiful "Percy's Song" is a remarkable song that J. Baez sang in the film, and Dylan's version here is seven minutes long, and the unaffected performance is heartbreaking.Lay Down Your Weary Tune" is another hidden gem that was kept under wraps until it was released on "Biograph" later in the year. Just by listening to the songs so far, all of the songs that were not included on the album can be called fine songs or masterpieces. It would have been fine to have made an album "The Times They Are a-Changin'" with these songs. However, Dylan did not make that choice. Rare live takes of such important songs as "God is on My Side," "Spanish Leather Boots," and "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" are also included. This is a collection of historic sessions that offers a glimpse behind the scenes of the making of Dr. King's "March on Washington," in which Dylan also participated, and the only complete protest album of his life, which Dylan presented to the world in 1963, the year of J. F. Kennedy's assassination. The 8-page booklet contains 6,700 Japanese characters of commentary on the situation at the time, episodes, and detailed explanations of all the songs.
