Description:
Take it in with your heart, not your ears."- Urbanski & the Warsaw Philharmonic, a recording of the sorrow and beauty of the Symphony of Sorrows at its finest! The Warsaw Philharmonic, Poland's flagship orchestra, and Urbanski, who was appointed Music Director and Artistic Director for the 2024/25 season, present their first recording of the Symphony No. 3, which made Gretzky, one of Poland's most famous composers of the 20th century, famous throughout the world. The duo performed the piece in June 2025 at the closing concert of the Warsaw Philharmonic's 2024/25 season to fully flesh it out, and then recorded it over three days, from the 16th to the 18th of the same month, in an intimate session recording. Conducting this piece is a very special experience for me. Conducting this piece is a very special experience for me, because it evokes more emotions in my heart than I could ever imagine. Urbanski introduced his first attempt at conducting here. He had three singers share the lyrics, which are usually sung by one soloist. The three singers sing in a unified style, so that the differences are not so obvious. The three singers sang in a unified style, so they did not make their differences obvious, but the color of their voices and their appropriate interpretations of the lyrics naturally conveyed the fact that this was a story of three different women. The music is also notable for Urbanski's conducting, especially in the tempo setting: all three movements are designated as Lento, and the slow tempo of this piece, partly due to its elegiac tone, has resulted in previous recordings of the entire work running around 55 minutes. The performance time of this disc is just under 48 minutes. Although the performance does not give the impression of being "fast," it has a more natural flow of music and a calm but restrained emotional ups and downs. The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra responded with a profound sound, and the recording is serene, magnificent, and moving, befitting the message being sent to the world in the 80th year since the end of World War II.The booklet contains comments by Urbanski, profiles of the performers, lyrics and translations in Polish, English, German, and Japanese. The LP is limited to the initial production of 500 sets. ACD-352V includes CD and LP. Naxos Japan
