A collection of orchestral works by popular American composer Kevin Putz, whose multiple works have been released on the NAXOS label.
Conductor Stéphane Denève first spoke with Putz by phone in 2018 for the commissioning of "Villeret," a work commemorating his appointment as music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and they had a great conversation about "John Williams," "Bjork," "Bach and Mozart vocal works," "French wine," and the city of St. Louis and its orchestra. They hit it off about the wonders of the city of St. Louis and its orchestras. The Concerto for Orchestra, also dedicated to Denève and the St. Louis Symphony, was inspired by the shock of the May 2022 school shooting in Uvaldi, Texas, and by Hymn for the Hurting, written by the young American poet Amanda Gorman in response to that event. The six movements of this piece are in six different movements. The composition consists of six movements, with "Hymn" placed first, and then each movement focuses on a different section of the orchestra.Silent Night Elegy" consists of music from the 2011 Pulitzer Prize-winning first opera "Silent Night" (NAXOS 8.669050), and largely traces the story of the opera through five sections that are performed in succession. The story of the opera is almost traced through the five sections that follow. The music is easy to listen to and modern tonal music.
