Description:
Formed in 2006 by students of the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Romania, the Arcadia Quartet has won many competitions, including the 2014 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Their previous fourth collection was praised by Record Geijutsu Online as "deeply expressive and unique, different from the existing complete works. The excellent recording was also recommended by Record Geijutsu ONLINE. Weinberg's works from different periods are included in this fifth collection: No. 3, written in 1944, is considered his first mature quartet. His later work, No. 9 from 1963, is the product of a "glorious decade" after World War II, when he was favored by prominent musicians such as Gilleris, Kogan, and Kondrashin; No. 14, written in 1978, is the work of the late Shostakovich, who was a great admirer of Weinberg's, and was a great supporter of Weinberg's music, Composed in 1978, No. 14, three years after Shostakovich's death, is in five uninterrupted movements in attacca, each movement marked only with metronome symbols. Improvisation and Romance" is a work from the Stalin era. At the time, composers were forced to write "understandable" music as required by the state, but Weinberg succeeded in weaving his own lyricism into his music.The "Improvisation" is an adagio played on a soft keyboard with a flowing and beautiful melody. The following "Romance" has a familiar style that is reminiscent of his piano work "Children's Miscellany".
