Description:
The ambitious debut album by this young piano trio Trio Pantum was formed in 2016 by students of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. The name comes from the fact that the first piece they played at their first meeting was Ravel's "Pantum", the second movement of the piano trio, and they have actively participated in prestigious international competitions all over the world. In 2023 alone, they participated in six competitions in Vienna, Lyon, Munich, and Osaka, winning prestigious awards. It was natural for them to choose Ravel as the core of their debut album, but they were not bound by any one aesthetic, and their curiosity led them to explore a contrasting and varied repertoire. Thus, in addition to their best-loved works, the ensemble combines a fine work by the Russian romantic Alensky and a work on social networking by the up-and-coming Czech musician Slunka, revealing the influences of each. The performances are lyrical, fresh, and dynamic, but they are not merely youthful; they are also very beautiful and pleasing, showing a thoughtful and sincere approach to each piece. Kojiro Okada, who plays the piano, was born in 1999 in Bordeaux. He is an up-and-coming pianist of great promise, who has been frequently awarded prizes in competitions held in Belgium and Spain, and has also been accumulating achievements as a soloist. *Japanese commentary is included.
