Description:
Rino Liviavella was a pianist and composer active in the first half of the 20th century. He studied composition with Respighi at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia. He was a pioneer in the movement to liberate Italian instrumental music from the influence of opera, and composed many dynamic works that inspired the emotions of listeners, winning many awards, including a silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games in the artistic competition (orchestral composition category). As an educator, he trained many young composers, including Franco Donatoni. The works on this album are regarded as part of an important group of works for violin and piano in Italy during the first half of the 20th century. The album is performed by violinist Hans Liviavella, grandson of the composer. He is the first violinist of the "Energie Nove Quartet" in Lugano and is an active performer with the ensemble. Pianist Gianluca Angelillo was born in Turin. She studied under Lev Naumov at the Moscow Conservatory for three years and is active internationally. Naxos Japan
