Johann Franz Xaver Störkel is a pianist and composer born in Würzburg. Although his musical activities were restricted by his stepfather during his childhood, he began to play the piano with his mother's support and developed his musical talent.Later, at the age of 14, he entered the University of Würzburg, where he studied to become a clergyman while also focusing on his musical activities, becoming a priest in 1774, and in parallel composing symphonies and arias for court singers, which earned him a reputation. His eight symphonies were performed more than 50 times in the five years from 1777 at the "conseil spirituelle" in Paris, making him the most frequently performed composer in Paris between 1777-79. He composed numerous piano trios and quartets in addition to his operas and a dozen symphonies. His Op. 30, published by Artaria in 1789, was "praised for its pleasant flow, song-like melody, and harmonic unity. The work emphasizes the role of the violin and cello, especially for this period when keyboard instruments often played a leading role. The Piano Quartet is from 1804. (Naxos Japan)
