The album is a collection of unknown cello sonatas from the first half of the 20th century by cellist Astrigues Syranosyan, a native of Lyon who is well known in Japan for his performances at La Folle Journée au Japon, and Nathanael Gouin, who has been performing with him for a long time, This album is a collection of unknown works by Astrig Silanosian and Nathanaël Gouin. A lifelong friend of Henri Duparc and a military man, Jean Clas, when he was a young French naval officer of only 22 years old, has a sonata that takes a respectable 30 minutes of playing time, testifying to his precocity in mastering form and textural structure. Pierre-Octave Ferroux, who studied under Florent Schmidt and was also active as a music critic, has a small sonata that is stylish and accessible. He had a promising future, but died in a car accident four years after composing this sonata. Marcel Soulages was a student of Nadia Boulanger at the Conservatoire in Paris, where his works won many prizes, and after the war he was a professor of music theory at the Conservatoire. Although his name is rarely heard today, the sonatas in this collection are also full of originality.Syranoian is deeply attached to these works, which have somehow disappeared from the history of modern French music, and gives a wonderful performance that brings out their charm and importance.
