Baiba Sklide has been enthusiastically working on Gubaidulina's works in recent years, performing "Offertorium" with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 2023, and has also been actively promoting her works in Europe and the United States. The first piece on the album is a triple concerto that includes a bayan (a Russian and Ukrainian button-type chromatic accordion), which Gubaidulina often uses. The three soloists, who are superb musicians, are supported by an orchestra led by Manze. The Sonata for Violin and Cello, "Rejoice!" for violin and cello was written in 1981, but was not permitted to be performed because of its religious content, and was finally premiered in 1988 after the perestroika. The two instruments engage in a tense, sometimes secretive, sometimes exuberant dialogue. (Naxos Japan)
