Description:
A collection of songs by Austrian composer Wilhelm Kienzl, who began his career in 1883 as music director of the German Opera in Amsterdam and went on to become a pianist, conductor, musicologist, and music critic; he achieved success with his opera "Der Evangelimann" in 1895 and also composed the national anthem of the First Republic of Austria, which existed from 1918 to He also composed "Deutschosterreich, du herrliches Land," the anthem of the First Republic of Austria, which existed from 1918 to 1938. Although his vocal music was highly acclaimed, his more than 200 songs have been largely neglected since his death. This album presents four collections of songs. Each of the songs, in the vein of late Romanticism, deals with themes of love, loss, death, and man's relationship with nature, and is written in a variety of styles, from folk songs reminiscent of Mahler to grandiose pieces reminiscent of a scene from an opera. Malte Müller, who sings expressively on the album, is a tenor singer born in Lichtenfels, Germany. She studied at the Mannheim Conservatory after singing in the Regensburg Cathedral Choir. With a wide repertoire ranging from Wagner and Weber operas to German lieder and musical numbers, she captivates audiences with her brilliant voice.
