Donizetti's historical opera "Alfred the Great" sung by Siragusa - world premiere on film! King Alfred and Queen Amalia are reunited with the help of a shepherd named Guglielmo and decide to fight the Danes who have invaded England. Atkins, a Danish general, discovers the king's whereabouts and attacks them, but they escape thanks to the resourcefulness of his vassal Eduardo. Eventually, the soldiers and people rally under Alfred's banner, fight the Danes, and expel them from England. ...... The opera "Alfred the Great" by the young Donizetti is one of a series of historical operas set in England that the composer would later work on (《 Elisabetta at Keniswahl Castle, Anna Bolena, Rosmonda of England, Maria Stuarda, Robert Devereux, etc.). The work premiered at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 1823, but was cancelled after only a few performances and was put in storage. The main reason for its failure is said to have been the weakness of the script's plot.This work is a recording of the 2023 Su Ensemble, 200 years after its premiere, by the Donizetti Festival in the composer's native Bergamo, which has brought an innovative new look to the staging of Donizetti's works. The production by Stefano Simone Pintore is unique in that the stage moves back and forth between 9th century England and a modern-day war zone. The cast includes Antonino Siragusa (Alfredo), a renowned Rossini tenor, and Gilda Fiume (Queen Amalia), a Verdi soprano, as well as the New National Theatre's "Don Pasquale" and "Falstaff," and the well-known Japanese singers "Domenico" and "Giacomo" (Giacomo), who have also performed in the New National Theatre's "Don Pasquale" and "Falstaff" productions. The Donizetti Opera Orchestra, led by the talented Corrado Rovaris, and the Hungarian Radio Chorus give a lively performance of Donizetti's unknown works. Naxos Japan
