Description:
Mendelssohn was a child prodigy and an excellent organist, and wrote more than 60 organ pieces from the age of 11 until his death. His "Six Sonatas," a late work, "Preludes and Fugues," reminiscent of Bach, and a variety of smaller works are also worth listening to. The charm of this set is that these works are performed on two organs built by Eberhard Friedrich Walcker (1794-1872) during Mendelssohn's lifetime. The Schramberg organ, an instrument with 35 stops and a French-style tone, was built in 1844 and rebuilt several times. It features a crescendo function. The Hoffenheim instrument was made in 1846 and is a slightly smaller instrument with 27 stops. The beautiful sound is atmospherically captured on the multi-channel SACD, and the different tones of the instruments can be enjoyed. Performed by Christian Schmidt, born in 1976.She studied organ performance at the Saar College of Music and won a prize at the German Music Competition in 2001. Since then, he has performed in concert halls throughout Europe and made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2012 with Magdalena Kožená. Naxos Japan
