Description:
Bruckner recordings by Inbal and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra are now available. Two late masterpieces, live in the 2010s. Eliahu Inbal's recordings of the first drafts of Nos. 3, 4, and 8 with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (Teldec/now Warner) caused a great deal of controversy and played a decisive role in spreading awareness of these first drafts. Combined with his superb reading of details and conducting ability, he has led the way in the elaborate and intelligent interpretation of Bruckner up to the present day. The archival recordings he made with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, which he conducted regularly, are being released here for the first time in No. 7 and No. 8. Inbal has two recordings of both pieces, one with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the other with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and this is the most recent of the two. The interpretation of No. 8 seems to have been refined at the time of the Teldec recording, and the performance time of all three recordings is in the 75-minute range, with very little difference between movements, which is a surprisingly high degree of perfection. On the other hand, the playing time of No. 7 is 58:34 on the 2012 Tokyo Symphony Orchestra disc (Exton) and 62:01 a year and a half later on this disc, and it is interesting to note that the playing time of all movements has been slightly extended. The orchestra also plays with precision and transparency, and is a valuable addition to the discography of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, which has recorded with unique Bruckner conductors such as Schuricht, Celibidacke, and Norrington. The score uses the Novak edition as is typical of Inbal (the second movement of No. 7 has cymbals), and the applause is cut. Naxos Japan
