Description:
The debut work of the brilliant conductor who captivated France on the eve of Rameau's arrival is revived by an up-and-coming conductor at the forefront! Valentin Tournay, one of the most promising conductors of the 21st century, has already attracted a great deal of attention in the French classical music scene and opera world, especially at the Royal Opera House of the Palace of Versailles. This time, we have the complete recording of a masterpiece that shone brilliantly in the interregnum of the history of French opera. The "Festivals of Greece and Rome" was premiered in 1723, at the end of the regnal reign of the Duke of Orleans (1715-1723), after the death of the Sun King Louis XIV, and at the beginning of the reign of the young Louis XV, and its music, which incorporates a large Italianate element in the pure French style, was well received by the public at the time when Paris was abuzz. It was a popular work that was repeated without a moment's pause. Even after the appearance of Rameau, who would go on to dominate the opera world, it was performed frequently and remained a staple of the repertoire with occasional tweaks, such as adding a song sung by the popular singer Geriot. The composer, Colin de Bramont, was of the same generation as Porpora and Tartini, and was an important composer who succeeded de Lalande after his death and became the general director of royal music.Although small-scale works such as cantatas have been introduced from time to time, recordings of large-scale works have been rare, and it is a milestone to be able to hear the entire performance of this masterpiece, the Hero's Dance, conducted by Tournet, who is an expert in Baroque operas. In order to maximize the charm of the work, which is filled with rich dance movements in between melodious songs, the up-and-coming orchestra of ancient instruments responds with exquisite stylistic sensibility to the singers who have made remarkable progress, including Blondine, Carpentier, and Vichak. This is an album that can only be produced in France, which is in the throes of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Naxos Japan
