Description:

Emilie Meyer was born in Mecklenburg, northern Germany, and in her late 20s decided to become a composer. She studied under the famous ballad composer Karl Röwe, and her energetic compositions in a wide range of fields, including opera, earned her the distinction of being one of the rare and successful female composers of her time. Her works are based on classical forms with romantic melodies, and she has been described as a "female version of Beethoven. The new series will feature seven string quartets recorded in their entirety. The first collection includes three pieces composed before 1858. Performing these works will be the Konstanze Quartet, whose members include Riro Motoyoshi, who studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum. They perform Meyer's works with great delicacy and emotion.
