Description:
Boris Giltburg's complete collection of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos is now complete. Included are Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 4, and the popular "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Giltburg began with the comment, "I can't understand why a piece filled with such a beautiful melody is so unpopular. The enthusiasm with which the recording was made is palpable. Giltburg also provides insightful commentary on No. 4 and the Paganini Rhapsody, but the most appealing aspect of this disc is that his sharp pianism vividly conveys the dramatic structure of these three works. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto in Nos. 2 and 3 is backed this time by the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Sinayski, who is an excellent interpreter of Russian music. The Japanese version comes with a Japanese translation of the original recording's commentary by Giltburg himself. Naxos Japan
