Description:
This is the seventh volume of the 10-volume organ edition of Bruckner's complete symphonies, a commemorative project for the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth in 2024. The series is under the auspices of conductor Christian Thielemann and will be completed in 2024. The Sixth Symphony is compact for a Bruckner symphony, but it shows a level of experimentation not found in his other symphonies, which the composer himself called "the most daring of his works. This album features an organ arrangement by Eberhard Klotz, who studied in Basel and is an organist there. It is also noteworthy that the recording was made on the organ of the Hofkirche in Lucerne, where Bruckner visited and gave a concert while composing No. 6. The organ is a historical instrument built in 1648, and at the time of its construction it was the largest and heaviest pipe in the world; in 1651 it was fitted with a "thunder pipe" (the oldest of its kind in the world) to imitate the sound of thunder, and in 1862, when organ builder Friedrich Haas expanded the organ, he added a "rain pipe" that played the sound of rain. Friedrich Haas, an organ builder, added a new feature, the "Rain Machine," which played the sound of rain, during an extension in 1862. It is said that the sound was so incredibly realistic that people actually opened their umbrellas when they heard it in church. Hansjörg Albrecht's "Alpine Blessing, Thunder and Rain Machine" is a tribute to this extraordinary organ.Albrecht also included two other "Equale" arrangements. In this series, Albrecht has commissioned new organ pieces inspired by Bruckner's music. This year's collection includes "Bruckner Blume" by Andrea Lorenzo Scartazzini, who was born in Italy and studied in Basel. Blume also means "flower" or "fragrance" of wine. The work is based on the second theme of the first movement of Symphony No. 6 and is a brilliant prelude to the main body of the symphony that follows. Naxos Japan
