Description:

A new version of "Paquita" by the Ural Ballet, the standard-bearer of the new era of Russian ballet! The story takes place in the Zaragoza region of Spain under Napoleon's French rule. Lucien, a French officer, meets Paquita, a beautiful gypsy girl, and falls in love at first sight. Inigo, the leader of the Gypsies, who has been in love with Paquita for some time, is so jealous that he makes an arrangement with Don Lopez, the governor of Zaragoza, who hates French rule, to have Lucien exiled... The ballet "Paquita" was choreographed by Joseph Magillier and first performed at the Paris Opera in 1846. After its premiere at the Paris Opera in 1846, Marius Petipa choreographed a new version for his Petersburg debut, which was performed by the Russian Imperial Ballet in 1847. This production by the Ural Ballet faithfully recreates Petipa's choreography and presents all three acts in an unprecedented original style. The first act, in which the love between Paquita, a gypsy girl, and Lucien, a French officer, begins, is in the style of 19th century classical ballet. The second act, in which the lovers are in danger, is a scene from a 20th century silent film, and the third act, in which the secret of Paquita's birth is revealed, is set in a modern ballet company. The final piece is the classic ballet known as "Paquita," the epitome of the classic ballet, "Grand Pa Classic," which concludes the performance. The dancers of the Ural Ballet dance dynamically to an impressive orchestration with a wide variety of percussion instruments, and the neat solos by Japanese dancers Miki Nishiguchi and Tomoha Terada are a must-see. Winner of the "Golden Mask Award" 2019 Special Jury Prize! Naxos Japan
