Burk was born in 1937 in Kharkiv (Kharkiv), Ukraine, and has lived in Finland since 1974. This third collection of symphonies presents his most recent symphonies, composed in 2019 and 2021. The works are surprisingly vital for a composer who is already over 80 years old, and all are full-bodied and focused on social issues. Symphony No. 21, whose composition is motivated by concern over the pollution of the world's oceans, is a work that encourages environmental initiatives. Symphony No. 23 is a tribute to the "Ingrians" who live quietly on the border between Finland and Russia. It is based on an Ingrian folk song. Both works use exquisite counterpoint and rich orchestral sound, and have a variety of expressions with some roughness. The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1989, and Kupchis, who specializes in Bourque's works, will perform these works. Naxos Japan
