The world is a joke! Gardiner's "Falstaff" is now available! The setting is Windsor under the reign of Henry IV. The story is set in Windsor during the reign of King Henry IV, and follows the uproar that ensues when the drunkard and womanizer Lord Falstaff sends love letters to two women, Alyce and Meg Page, at the same time, and the story of how Alyce's daughter Nannetta and her lover Fenton become united. Based on Shakespeare's play "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and written by Arrigo Boito, "Falstaff" is a funny and pathos-filled masterpiece that Verdi, who was nearly 80 years old, composed "for himself" and that combines the sweet and sour of life. When the new version of "Falstaff" was performed at the Florence May Festival Opera House, directed by Sven-Erik Bechtlov, the applause at the end of the performance was unceasing, and the final fugue was repeated. The audience also praised Nicola Araimo, who sang Falstaff, as well as the other singers. The singing of the four women in important roles, including American Irene Perez and veteran Sarah Mingardt, was also noteworthy.What is most impressive is that John Eliot Gardiner, who is a master of this work, conducts. Gardiner has previously conducted the Orchestre Revolutionnelle et Romantique in 1998, and this performance with the Orchestra of the Florence May Festival also boasts a wonderful finish with attention to detail, including the chorus.
