Description:

This is the third volume of the 10-volume Bruckner Symphonies for Organ, a commemorative project for the bicentennial of Bruckner's birth in 2024. In 1871, Bruckner was invited to play the organ in London, and in 1871, he was invited to play the organ in London. In 1871, he participated in the London Organ Competition and won first prize. It is said that he improvised and played Bach's pieces and his own compositions in front of an audience of 70,000 people in the Crystal Palace, a huge structure that existed at that time. After that, he stayed in London for a while and began composing his second symphony in October of the same year. The symphony was completed in Vienna in less than a year, and was premiered by his friend Otto Dessoff, but the orchestra members found it "unplayable," so Bruckner revised the work, which was finally premiered the following year in 1873 under Bruckner's own baton. In 1873, Bruckner conducted the first performance of the work himself. The work was further revised in 1877, and the present organ version is based on the 1877 revised manuscript. Bruckner himself seemed to enjoy playing large organs, and was fascinated by the huge organ (built by the Henry Willis Studio) at the Royal Albert Hall, which had just been completed in 1871.Hansjörg Albrecht used an organ built by Henry Willis' grandson, "Willis III," for this album, a magnificent instrument with four tiers of keys and 78 stops. It is the most appropriate instrument for performing the Second Symphony, which is associated with London. The new work for this project, which always attracts attention, is "Meditation on the Slow Movement of Bruckner's Second Symphony" by British composer David Matthews. The other is an organ version of Bruckner's Psalm 150. This one, like the symphony, includes an arranged version by Erwin Horn. Naxos Japan
