Here comes the previously released box of four albums by Henrik Andriessen with Darvid Porcelain and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (at the time of first release)! Hendrik Andriessen is a Dutch composer and organist. Known for his mastery of improvisation, he is also the man who revolutionized Catholic liturgical music in the Netherlands. However, he is actually a very versatile composer, and his works are not limited to organ music, but include many notable pieces such as the four symphonies and orchestral works heard here. His style is an eclectic blend of Romanticism and avant-garde, his melodies are easy to listen to, and his orchestral works were highly popular even before his death. Symphony No. 1 was premiered on October 1, 1930, by the Haarlem Orchestra conducted by Eduard van Beinum, and two years later Andriessen himself conducted the same orchestra in a performance of this work that attracted much attention.Symphony No. 2, written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Concertgebouw Orchestra; Wilhelms Rhapsody, with a melody officially recognized as the national anthem of the Netherlands in 1932; the energetic Symphony No. 3, with a brilliant fugue in the last movement; and his best-known work, Symphony No. 4 and others, as well as the cheerful and brilliant rhapsody "Libertas Venito," which, despite being written in 1941, seems to dispel the dark mood of the war, and is the culmination of Andriessen's compositional techniques. *Fion is the orchestra created by the merger of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019.
