In the early classical period, piano trios, like violin sonatas of the same period, generally had an obbligato (assistant) cello and violin on the keyboard instruments. It was not until Beethoven's time in the early 19th century that the violin and cello were given the same function as the piano, but in Mozart's piano trios, the keyboard instrument still predominates in the Trio (Divertimento) written in 1776, but in the five works written in the 1780s, the keyboard instrument has already been given the same function. In the five works written in the 1780s, the workings are already nearly equal, and the dialogue between the instruments can be enjoyed to the fullest. This new recording of the Vienna Mozart Trio is performed from Mozart's recently released autograph score, which, according to the trio, differs particularly in phrasing and articulation compared to the "original" printed score they have used since the trio's founding in 1991.
