This disc commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Malcolm Arnold, one of the most important British composers of the 20th century. Acclaimed British violinist Peter Fischer and pianist Margaret Fingerhut perform seven world premiere recordings for this album. The audience will hear the witty, memorable, and beautiful melodies in great detail. Several of the works have been arranged for violin and piano by Alan Poulton, president of the British "Malcolm Arnold Society," including some of Arnold's most beloved film scores, such as "Hobson's Choice of Groom" and "The Blue Flower of Dover. The arrangement of "Theme for Friends," composed in honor of critic John Amis, was approved by Arnold himself; "Five Pieces for Violin and Piano," composed in 1964 for Yehudi Menuhin; and "The Piano Piece," composed in 1964 for the piano, was approved by Arnold himself. This is a small piece with little sense of tonality and an enigmatic atmosphere.You can enjoy a variety of Arnold's works, including an English dance with a European sound and two serious violin sonatas.
