The Tudor dynasty flourished in England from the 15th to the early 17th century, and the Stuart dynasty originated in Scotland, where it flourished from the late 14th to the 18th centuries. The court culture that flourished during this period is known to have nurtured one of the greatest periods in the history of English music. This album features the works of Gibbons, Tomkins, and Weelkes, who were active during the "Jacobean Era" of the reign of King James I. The album features fascinating works on the subject of the Word of God. The Orpheus Britannicus Vocal Consort, founded in 2002 by conductor and organist Andrew Arthur, is an instrumental and vocal ensemble. Arthur is known as a specialist in Baroque and Classical works, and is an associate director of the Hanover Band, one of the leading British classical orchestras, as well as an active educator.
