Description:
The album features works by composers born into families of musicians with a long lineage in Russia. Konstantin Ryadov, who first appears on the album, is the father of Anatoli Ryadov, who is the centerpiece of the cast of characters. He was a conductor, composer, and violinist in Imperial Russia. And Alexander Ryadov is Konstantin's older brother. He was also a famous ballet conductor and composer. Konstantin Antipov was a cousin of Anatoli, who studied composition with Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He was a talented composer, but seems to have stopped composing in the late 1890s. Ivan Pomazansky was the husband of Valentina, Anatoli's sister. Anatoli often sought Ivan's advice on music. Ivan studied harp at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and was also a conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Chorus. The "Polka" on this album is dedicated to Anatoli. Evgeny Pomazansky is Ivan's son.He studied with his uncles Anatoli and Balakirev, and in 1940 he established a music school in Pskov to teach younger students, and was also involved in the revival of Russian music after World War II. Unfortunately, few of his works have survived, but this album includes three surviving pieces for children. Naxos Japan
