Bach (1685-1750)
Description:
A collection of cantatas by Rudolf Lutz and the Bach Foundation Orchestra. The 35th collection contains three pieces. No. 21, "My Heart is Full of Sorrow," for the Third Sunday after the Trinity, is a major work from Bach's youth, composed in two parts and lasting over 40 minutes. The contrast between the anguished first part and the hopeful second part is superb, and the soloists have plenty to offer. No. 32, "Beloved Jesus, My Wish," for the first Sunday after the Feast of the Presentation, is a small work in the form of a "Concerto in Dialogo" (Concerto in Dialogue). The soprano voices the soul and the bass the words of Jesus, creating a skillful world of prayer. The instrumentation consists of only the 1st and 2nd violins, viola, violone, cello, oboe, and organ. The tight sound adds to the solo singing. No. 47 for the Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity, "He that exalteth himself shall be exalted, and he that exalteth himself shall be exalted" is a cantata with a title based on the words from the 14th chapter of the Gospel of Luke. The work is a standard work with an elaborate and precise counterpoint chorus at the beginning, followed by a neat soprano and bass aria, and ends with a concise chorale. Naxos Japan
