Description:
The Bruckner recorded here, conducted by Jansons in January 2015, was the highlight of the orchestra's concerts in Munich that year. Originally a live album distributed only to members of the orchestra, this is the first time it has been made available for sale to the general public as part of the six-disc set released last year as Jansons' "Bruckner Selections. The way Jansons reads the complete score down to the smallest detail and painstakingly creates the sound is as usual. The expressive power of the first movement, with its impressive, crisp low strings, the skill with which he makes the beautiful melody of the second movement sing, and the propulsive sound of the Scherzo, which is very characteristic of Bruckner, are exceptional. The final movement climaxes with a variety of motives, and the appearance of the first theme of the first movement at the end is truly a masterpiece of Jansons.
