Born in Stuttgart in 1957, Ruoff, who served as professor and dean at Stuttgart State University, is one of the most important composers who have made significant contributions to organ music since Messiaen. He studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music on a scholarship from the Japanese government. His style of music is a fusion of the French cathedral tradition of Langrée, Dupré and Guilloux with the counterpoint and theory used in the music of German composers such as Reger. Inspired by the religious, he composes biblical stories with all the qualities of the modern symphonic organ, and he presents some of the most dramatic scenes from the Old Testament with unrestrained energy. Lehetra, a native of Finland, plays the organ of Turku Cathedral, one of Finland's most important architectural landmarks. Naxos Japan
