A collection of piano works by internationally acclaimed Iranian composers Farhat and Tafreshpour. Though of different generations, both received their musical education in Europe and the U.S. and forged their own paths: Farhat, born in 1928, was the first Iranian to study classical music in the U.S., where he studied with Darius Milhaud and others, and Tafreshpour, born in 1961, was the first Iranian to study piano in the U.S. He worked at UCLA for many years before returning to his native Iran. Born in 1974, Tafreshpour studied in England and Denmark, and his piano compositions are characterized by a cosmopolitan style while respecting the Persian musical tradition. The music is performed by Dahleh, who is also a member of the orchestra. The performer, Dalais, is an Irish pianist who specializes in contemporary music.
