Description:
Pianist Chadwick is an expert on Messiaen and Stockhausen. On this album, she performs three pieces from Messiaen's "Catalogue of Birds," for which she has had an unusual interest in birdsong since childhood, the modern "Ondine" by the English composer Gorton, a close friend of Chadwick, and the expressive "Piano Sonata No. 3" by Shimanowski, a piece known for its difficulty. The album ends with a "Vinyl" section. In between the pieces and at the end of the album, violinists Scheerwez and Levy improvise on a piece reminiscent of bird song, evoking images of light, color, mountains, and seaside journeys in music ranging from impressionist to modern and contemporary.
