The group of Reinaut van Mechelen, an old music singer who has been actively presenting the music of the French 17th and 18th centuries to the world through recordings on the Alpha label, A Nocte Tempolis. On the other hand, Vox Luminis, a small group of talented singers from France, Belgium, and Germany, with only two to three members per part, has presented a wide range of repertoire from the three major German S (Schütz, Schein, and Scheidt) to Handel. These two talented groups at the forefront of European ancient music research and live performance have joined forces to record a substantial album that confronts head-on two masterpieces by Charpentier, one of the greatest composers of the French Baroque. During the reign of Lully, the royal music director at the court of Louis XIV, Charpentier was kept away from the royal court and was prevented from composing major operas by Lully, but instead left many masterpieces of small-scale vocal music.The story of Orphe (Orpheus), the lyre virtuoso who goes to the underworld to retrieve his lover Eurydice, who has died prematurely, is told in two pieces, a long and a short one, and the ensemble of A Nocte Tempolis, which plays the song of Van Mechelen with vivid old instrumental accompaniment, is magnificent. The ensemble of A Nocte Tempolis is magnificent. The ensemble is led by the talented Antony Romanyuk, who also played the harpsichord on Patrizia Kopatchinskaja's famous "Take Two" album. The participation of the talented vocal group Vox Luminis is also very encouraging, and convincingly conveys that Charpentier's music, full of theatricality, is a sound world that should be confronted in the 21st century.
