A powerful Violetta by the popular Covent Garden production of YAO! Richard Eyre's production of "La Traviata," first staged in 1994, is a popular production that has been revived 25 years later. This year's production features Hermonella Yao, who is known as one of the best Violetta singers of her generation. She has performed Violetta many times at the Royal Opera House, including as understudy, and her uncanny acting singing, backed up by her outstanding singing technique, as if she were possessed by Violetta, made Georgiou, Rost, Fleming, Netrebko, and other distinguished divas who have performed this role so far look like they were in a daze. The performance was so convincing that it made Georgiou, Rost, Fleming, and Netrebko, all of whom have played this role in the past, seem to be in a daze. Although a video of Richard Eyre's production of "La Traviata" has already been released, this release was realized in response to requests from opera fans for a video of Yao's Violetta. Alfredo, played by the young American tenor Charles Castronovo, is another winner, giving a fine performance as a young man whose innocence leads him to act foolishly.
