The Merry Widow was premiered in a new production at the Frankfurt Opera in May 2018. In addition to the well-crafted singing by the talented singers Marlis Petersen and Yuri Samoilov, it was the conductor Joanna Marwitz who attracted particular attention. Born in Germany in 1986, she first debuted as a pianist, but began her conducting career in 2006, and has steadily established herself as an up-and-coming conductor, appearing at various European opera houses, including Erfurt Theater, Frankfurt Opera House, and Copenhagen Royal Opera House. She conducted the witty music of "The Merry Widow" with great skill. She and the singers received a standing ovation from the audience.
